Flavorful and nutrient-rich goji berries grow at high altitudes and in arid climates. Our goji berries grow in these remote areas where sun, fresh air and water from clean sources are abundant.
Goji berries are harvested once a year and the whole harvest takes about two months to complete. Each berry is handpicked because of its delicate nature, placed in bamboo baskets and sent to a nearby facility for cleaning.
After the goji berries have been picked they need to be cleaned and dried quickly. The facility is a twenty minute scooter drive away and upon arrival the berries are gently washed with an organic solution, rinsed and laid out to dry. Our berries are dried in small batches and closely monitored to ensure consistent quality. Each batch is “baked” in temperatures less than 117 degrees until all the moisture is removed and sent to be sorted.
After all the berries are dried they are sorted by weight and size. Smaller berries are less expensive and larger ones are juicier and more expensive, we’ve tested all the sizes and thought the largest were going to be the best but the second largest size have the perfect balance of flavor, texture and nutritional content. When sorting is complete the berries go through several metal and color detectors where any bad berries are removed and the rest are sent to be packed.
